Very recently,  new changes in handball rules were set, which we can see already at these World Championships in Bratislava. What do you expect personally from these new rules?

I think it will make handball more attractive. For example, if there are players who pretend injuries to have some time for the rest, then it is quite difficult to finish the match on time. New rules will affect the time of the handball match. It will affect the television time, because sometimes the match can take up to 2 hours and this is very bad for us.

In the meantime, this rule is also protecting the health of our players. If you are really injured, you have to rest some attacks outside. Another thing is the blue card. Sometimes if the referee decides to give you a red card, players and spectators do not know if the player will play next match or not.

Sometimes delegations come after the match and try to influence the opinion of the referees about the participation of the player with the red card in the next match. But this time, we will cover our referees, so they do not have to change their opinion. They take the decision and the decision has to be followed. All these new rules should make handball more faster.

Are you satisfied with the development of handball in recent years?

I think this is not the right question for me, because I am the president and I see it from another perspective. You have to ask people around handball, where was handball 10-15 years ago and where it is now. We had a lot of progress in handball not only here in Europe, but also in the countries, which we can see at these World Championships, for example Argentina or Angola.

Finance was a main problem long time ago, because the budget was very limited. When I started as a President of IHF, all the budget for four years was around 8 million swiss frank. It was only marketing and TV. But now we have 100 million only for TV. Plus money from the marketing, where for example last year we received 25 million. This is the main thing that when you have a financing problems you cannot help and support your underdeveloped countries.

When I started, we had 128 countries. Now we have 204  member countries. The majority of these countries need help and support from IHF. This is why the finance situation is that important.

In Slovakia we face kind of a problem to bring  kids to handball next to the competition of other sports like football, icehockey or volleyball. What is the way how to bring children to handball?

Schools, schools and then schools. This is the most important thing. But the main advantage here in Slovakia is that sports falls under the Ministry of Education, so the Minister of Education can help a lot in this area.
