Legenden Andrej Lavrov: This could be a golden generation

There are a lot of really talented players in this team. Will we see them in the seniors team soon?

I would think that seven to eight players will be soon playing in the senior team. This could be a golden generation. And there is a number of young players in this team that will still play for the juniors in the next years.

There is a trend that Russian men move to leagues outside of Russia while women seem to prefer to stay in the Russian league now and there are even a few foreign professionals. Can you comment on this trend?

The start of the economic crisis three years ago hit us hard. From one day to another the clubs with support from government institutions had to cut their budgets and couldn”t really plan for the future. The situation is now getting better since the officials in the government understand that this situation can”t continue. And also the organization and funding of this tournament shows that there is growing attention for our sport.

For the women there are also more sponsors from the private industry. I can advise to young players only to look for strong leagues with a number of good clubs. For the women I see that we have five to six clubs which compete on one level and there aren”t a lot of other leagues with that quality. For the men the things are different. The Russian men Superleague has not the quality compared to the best leagues in Europe.
