Den stora dagstidningen USA Today uppmanar amerikanerna att börja spela handboll.
OS är ett lysande tillfälle för idrotter att sprida sig till andra grupper och nationer utanför sin egen bubbla. Detsamma gäller såklart handbollen som ju framför allt ligger efter i de stora engelsktalande länderna som USA, Kanada, England och Australien.
I USA har handbollen dock fått fin publicitet redan såhär i inledningen av OS 2016. Vi rapporterade häromdagen om att NBC gör handbollen tillgänglig på sina plattformar och igår kväll (inatt svensk tid) publicerade USA Today, en av de stora dagstidningarna, en artikel med rubriken: Calling all U.S. athletes: Handball needs you.

There is only one sport in the Olympic program that doesn’t have any United States representation at these Games, and it might just offer the best opportunity for would-be Olympians currently riding their couches and watching the action.
It is team handball, and, right now the U.S. is not particularly good at it. The international qualifying competition for the Games is tough, the sport is played far more extensively in other countries and, in truth, the American men’s and women’s didn’t get within a sniff of Rio.”
Där är också intervjuer med spelare och ledare i USA och en förhoppning inför kommande OS. Till 2024 har Los Angeles sökt att få arrangera och konkurrerar med Rom, Paris och Budapest. Det vore en bra skjuts för handbollen med mer resurser från USA:s olympiska kommitté om OS 2024 landade i Los Angeles. Kan vara bra att ha i bakhuvudet när ni håller tummarna för var det blir av.
