Officiellt: Ingen VM-publik i Egypten

Nu är det klart – det blir ingen publik under VM i Egypten, det skriver arrangören i ett pressmeddelande.

Det har varit mycket snack fram och tillbaka – arrangören, med IHF-presidenten Hassan Moustafa i spetsen, ville gärna ha publik på matcherna. Spelarna däremot tyckte att det var en dum idé och spelarfacket har satt rejält med press på IHF. Nu har reaktionen kommit.

The Supreme Organising Committee has convened on Sunday, headed by Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly alongside Minister of Youth & Sports Dr Ashraf Sobhy, IHF President Dr Hassan Mostafa, Hesham Nasr, the LOC Chairman & Head of the Egyptian Handball Federation and Hussein Labib, the LOC Director.

The meeting saw officials deciding that no fans are to be allowed into the venues and announcing that the games will thus be held behind closed doors amid ongoing precautionary measures to combat the COVID-19.

Egypt 2021 is a historical tournament, featuring 32 teams for the first time ever as opposed to the previous 24 -team format tournament that took place before.

The 27th Handball World Championship will take place in four different halls; Cairo International Indoor Complex, the New Administrative Capital Hall, the Dr Hassan Moustafa Indoor Complex and the Borg El Arab Stadium Hall,” står det i pressmeddelandet.
