Det tog sin lilla tid, men nu har Internationella handbollförbundet (IHF) till slut vaknat och bestämt sig för att stänga av samtliga lag, ledare, domare, föreläsare och andra experter från Ryssland och Belarus, något IHF meddelar via sin hemsida.
Mer eller mindre alla andra idrottsförbund världen över har agerat mot Ryssland och Belarus som reaktion på Rysslands invasion av Ukraina. Men från IFH har det varit tyst. Fram till nu. Via sin hemsida meddelar IHF att de stänger av lag från Ryssland och Belarus.
”The International Handball Federation (IHF) strongly condemns the actions taken by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine and would like to convey their support and solidarity to everyone who is affected by this war situation,” skriver IHF bland annat.
”With immediate effect and until further notice, the IHF bans all teams, officials, referees, lecturers and experts from Russia and Belarus from taking part in IHF events and activities.”
Beslutet innebär att Ryssland inte kommer att delta i kommande U20-VM, U18-VM eller VM i beachhandboll. Ryssland och Belarus är sedan tidigare avstängt från såväl herr-VM 2023 som dam-EM 2022.
IHF avslutar med följande ord:
”The IHF hopes for a return to peace and calls for the involved parties to stop the military action to preserve the life of their citizens, also wishing that a return to a normal situation will be possible so that all players can at some point get back to action on the handball courts.”
