Elina Linnér laddar just nu för try-outs med USA:s damlandslag i handboll den 17-18 december.
Det är The Desert Sun som gjort ett reportage med svenska Elina Linnér. Hon har flyttat till La Quinta i Kalifornien med familjen och försöker nu maximera sin handbollskarriär på andra sidan Atlanten.
Hon beskriver utmaningar där kompisarna inte ens vet vad handboll är:
”I try to explain like mixed basketball and water polo kind of,” she said. ”You play on a basketball court and you throw the ball like you do playing water polo. I would tell my friends I play handball but first when I told them they thought I meant the handball against the wall (an American game in which individuals hitting a racquetball with their hands), but then I showed them videos so now they know what it is … kind of.”
Linnér är född 1998 och lirade i Lödde Vikings innan flytten till USA. Nu är dock siktet inställt på att ta en plats i det amerikanska landslaget som har uttagningar den 17-18 december i Auburn. Sedan väntar även turneringar i Brasilien och USA.
”That’s always been my dream to be in the Olympics. It’s going to be really hard to make it because handball is not very big here so there’s not a lot of people who know about the sport which means there’s not a lot of like really, really good players like in Europe. So that’s why it’s hard for the U.S. Team to make the Olympics. But that’s my dream.”
